About Alejandra Mallén

My name is Alejandra Mallén. I am an Asturian painter, from Llanes, now settled on the Costa del Sol.

Since I was a child I was fascinated by any painting I saw, especially an immense curiosity for the alchemy of colors, for its strange effect on the human eye, which can be bewitched by a particular chord of color. The canvas is a small universe where colors, if they love each other, can create a tiny imitation of Totality.

As a child I painted every day, but something broke when a friend of my mother's criticized my work and I suddenly stopped painting. Besides, my adolescence was whispering me to do crazy things and my only obsession was to go far away to study, to escape from my parents' house and my small village by the sea. I made a terrible mistake and studied something that was at the antipodes of my heart: Law, at the University of Salamanca. Salamanca, in spite of Law, set the stage for the happiest days of my life, without painting a single line. Later, in Madrid, I practiced the disaster of law, and there I felt again the call of colors, strokes, brushstrokes. I painted every weekend and devoured exhibitions with my briefcase full of judicial decisions, until a great crisis, at the age of 44, I left my profession and my whole world to go to a small village in Segovia, El Espinar, to rebuild myself again and I began to paint every day, at all hours.

Afterwards, I moved to the Costa del Sol, where I have been living for almost 13 years. Exhibitions and website, through them I have made my work known to the world and my paintings began to tour the world and to settle in the most varied homes. I paint in sacred silence and in solitude, in this way, being my attention absolutely captured by the painting, I stop being Alejandra, so that “Something” paints through me. If I paint something beautiful, I have achieved it, and if not, the person, with his thoughts and allegations, was hindering the flow of beauty.
